Methodology & Scope
Inclusion criteria
What this record includes
The archive lists lone actors who took direct,
documented action against Donald J. Trump or a sitting member of
his administration. A case meets the threshold for inclusion if the
person reached for, drew, raised or fired a weapon near the target;
breached a secured perimeter (a rally, residence or motorcade)
while armed; or used a non-firearm weapon, such as a vehicle,
against a presidential motorcade with stated intent to kill.
Foreign-directed plots, such as the Iran-linked Asif Merchant
murder-for-hire scheme, are not lone-actor cases and are excluded.
So are verbal threats, mailed substances and arrested plotters who
did not reach an attempt.
Two cases are classified as disputed. Vem Miller
was arrested near a Trump rally in Coachella, California, in October
2024. The Riverside County sheriff said deputies likely stopped a
third assassination attempt; the Secret Service said Trump was not
in immediate danger and no federal assassination charge was filed.
Michael Marx fired a handgun along Vice President JD Vance's
motorcade route on the National Mall in May 2026; the Secret
Service said there is no evidence Marx was targeting Vance.
All figures come directly from the cited records. Every case links
to its primary sources. Fields marked "not publicly reported" are
attributes that have not been confirmed in public reporting as of
the last revision date.
